How to open a .ART File ?

How can I open a .ART file on a Windows.

I believe this is a compressed format for GFX
but I have tried Adobe PhotoShop and
MS Internet Explorer I cannot open the file

Which software can allows you to view a .ART file ?

.art is AOL's proprietary compressed web graphics format. If you don't have access to an AOL account, you need to get the sender to save the file as a jpg or gif and send that.

Fundamentally, the answer is "if you have to ask, you can't"

You can actually use the AOL Client to achieve this even without being an AOL member.

Install and start AOL but don't connect. Just close the connection dialog to get you to the main AOL screen. Then choose File/Open to open your ART file.

There's a save button on the ART display window that allows you to save the ART file back out in the different format. Depending on your version of AOL you'll have a choice of different formats but you'll always have .bmp as a choice. Earlier versions allow you to save as .jpg etc.
