Social Networking sites

What are your opinions about these kinds of sites e.g. Ryze, LinkedIn, Friendster etc..? Just a fad or killer app?

IMHO, not a fad. more like an evolution.

in the beggining there was IM and generalized chat rooms.

it appears this model is just being updated a little.

I think it's a necessary step. One the one hand you have that insatiable desire to meet people you don't know. On the otherhand it's can be pretty disappointing having micro relationships with people you just don't have enough in common.

Most solutions at the moment are at the extremes. Either lans where you can only talk to your coworkers or local BBS.. or freaking IRC.

IMHO the killer app will be the site that combines all of the above. I have a few ideas for this killer app, but I'll keep them to myself in case one day I want to develop it. =b~
