Need some kind of free Photoshop app Anyone know of one? I just need 1% of Photoshop. Like making simple images, and adding a few simple effects to the text. (shadows, etc)
Bella
I've only checked it out a bit on a Knoppix CD, but isn't Gimp fairly well reccomended? I have *no* idea if they have a Windows build though.

Googled The Gimp and got http://www.gimp.org and for Windows http://www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32/. Should work for what you need.

Try http://www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32/

Was looking for something related (a simple tool to set the transparent background of a gif) and ran into this:

The GIMP looks pretty ugly, but it certainly works, and the windows version is pretty stable these days.

I love Paintshop Pro, been using it for years. I've got Photoshop too, but it has the most hideous UI.

Paintshop Pro is very good, it has grown a lot. It's entirely scriptable in Python too (not that I've used this feature but I *plan* to).

Pixia is good, if a trifle awkward to use.

Apart from The Gimp, which is great, I recommend buying one of those computer magazines that come with 2 or 3 CDs with a zillion programs. I got an oldish version (two versions ago) of ULead for free in a copy of PC Magazine. This programs does all what you want to do.

Bella, you didn't mention which operating system.

http://www.irfanview.com/ is good. Not sure if it has exactly the features you need...

I loooked at the GIMP homepage for about 10 seconds, and then closed the screen. If there isn't a 1-step "setup.exe", then it aint getting installed. Anything that requires some kind of external installer is a JOKE. These people "just don't get it" Unfortunate, if you actually want someone to use your software.

Microsoft has a crappy photo editor that comes with Office, I think. It might be that 1% you're looking for.

If you only need it for a single use, you could always download the trial version of Paint Shop Pro:

The problem is the requirement to install a copy of Java in order to be able to use a Java program.
