How many resumes do you get Joel?

Your article has garnered a lot of feedback. I'm curious, how many resumes do you receive per day and total that you have to dig through?

Between 10 and 30 a day for posted jobs. A handful more for nonexistant jobs.

Anyone else take this as a challenge? [grin]

"Dear Spolsky:
I know you aren't looking for a Mars Rover debugger, but apparently one is needed..."

Yeah, at 30 resumes a day it is completely reasonable to throw out huge amounts of resumes for arbitrary reasons. How long has that job ad been posted? How many hundreds of resumes have accumulated so far? Nuff said.

Incidentally, has anyone noticed that the crazydood2004@hotmail.com address is advertising Yahoo services?

Is this a reverse psychology technique by MS or was that a typo? :-)

BTW, though I can't resist the wiseass posts, I actually think that Joel's article is a well-written piece of common-sense.

Step 1, read the resumes, cull the chaff - hopefully a lot of it.

The ones you want to interview will *know* how to write a decent resume - why would anyone want to change this?

I don't want to interview someone who made it past this step because (s)he read "How to write a resume for the brain dead". Now I've got to interview them.

If they can't even write a resume, why on earth would you want them writing software or anywhere near your code for that matter. Finally, why on earth would you tell them how to beat your system?

---"nonexistant jobs"----

Actually, "nonexistant" is a nonexistent word.

crazydood2004 -at- hotmail.com might be a real address which is why Joel took the trouble to obfuscate it.

Now you guys've done it.
