Recommendation for antivirus? "antivirus" didn't return a thread, so here goes: Which would you recommend? I'm currently using the free edition of AVG (which doesn't run if the computer was not up at the set hour for update/test), and wondered which option to upgrade to?

We've been using Sophos for a few years now, and we're really impressed with it. Cross platform, automated unattended virus identity updates, and very good at knowing about new viruses before I hear about them via the 'net.

I recommend McAfee.

I would recommend:

Can't recommend one in particular, aside from to _not_ recommend Norton / Symantec based on the crap you have to go through to get your subscriptions renewed correctly after a re-install combined with poor customer service...

The free version of fprot is pretty nice, but it's ridiculous how you have to reboot to dos, config.sys a readonly NTFS driver to dos, then scan it. And because it's read only, it can only warn, not much more.

I've had good luck with Kaspersky so far. It found all the java viruses from my wife's online game habits. It's also very non-intrusive, and has yet to trash my machine. I can't say the same for McAfee, and Norton isn't my best friend either.
