Research Triangle, NC Pragmatic Practitioners

Is there any organization or group of people in the Triangle area that meet and share best practices for development and/or managing the software development process.

I know about the Triangle .Net users group already - this is a little too low level technology focused to me. Are there any others?

Does anyone recommend the Project Management Institute (PMI)? How about a group within an IEEE software chapter or something?

Any help appreciated in finding like-minded people in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area who wish to discuss any manner of topics of how to run good software development organizations...

I just did a Google search and found the following page:

It lists http://www.rtpspin.org/ which sounds close to what you are looking for.

I've never met with any of these groups. I just wanted to reply to a fellow Triangle software professional. :) Are the any others that read Joel on Software?

At the risk of turning this into a "me too!" thread .... well, me too! I'm a regular JOS reader living and working in Cary.

I don't know of any groups like you mentioned, and while I'd be interested, I just don't have time for something like that. Between work, family and a side project, my hours are accounted for.

That's why the JOS forum is so great for me. It's my software development discussion group. I read it daily and post occasionally.
