Virus Of The Mind (The Book)
Has anyone read a book called Virus Of The Mind
More a concept or idea I think, than behaviour, though that could be my prejudice.
Well, to pass on a meme you have to _do_ something: stand in a town square shouting; post on web bulletin boards; or just talk to an old friend. A meme that doesn't influence your behaviour just isn't going to get passed on.
The belief that the earth is flat is a meme. So is the belief that the flow of time is different in different frames of reference. So is a preference for Mozart over Beethoven. So is the notion of a meme. Yes, they all affect how their bearers behave, but that doesn't mean they *are* "behaviours".
" The study of memes is called memetics."
How micro can we get? Can the belief that memes are behaviours or opinions or something else itself be a meme? Can posting to this thread be a meme? Can writing a post where every sentance ends in a question mark be a meme?
