pc for blind people

I am looking for information about computers for blind people. Something that will turn a pc into really useful tool. Links to the special hardware and software are welcome.

I know Slashdot has some useful articles:

Thanks, did everything except the "Voila". Google shows many "blah-blah" things but I found no really good solutions.

I guess dk is asking people who have really used those tools and recommend one. Google returns 197, 000 links and it takes a lot of time to find out what he wants. This is no _voila_. :)

Why don't you try some of the institutes for the blind or different blind organisations in your country.  A friend of mine was trying to do something for blind people with PC's a few years ago, but eventually he gave up (in the UK).

So good luck.

Ah, the ubiquitous Google-search-link response, that 'RTFM' flip-off for the new millenium.

Oh so much more frustrating than no answer at all, and about half as helpful.

But entirely appropriate in most instances.

Stale topic, I know, but I second the suggestion to check for institutions for the blind.  I did some volunteer work with this organization: ...and they have a decent link list.

And the Google thing has become common enough that I've spotted a few instances of "STFW" in place of "RTFM".
