new BMW software every week?

--You really can't rerelease the embedded software that runs your BMW engine every day or every week.--

Why not?
Isn't this what certain "Ricer" shops do? Hack your honda prelude's speed limiter?

But if you have critical mistakes in that software, you are going to blown your pricey car.

And surely what they is not a very common scenario.

if you want to recall every one of your products which needs updated software every week then you can, but your business will probably fail if you try to do so.

I guess BMW releases its motor chips firmware much more often than say MS - just look at version numbers.

Anyway - the point is not that you have to release after each iteration. XP have special catgory called Release - you plan a release - which is usually 3-12 months and brake it into iterations.
You certainly don't have to release the result of each iteration. The point is to show the result of each iteration to Customer for feedback. Depending on the type of software you producing - your Customer can be your beta testers, pre-beta testers, your marketing department, Product Manager, QA Team, Usability Lab - whatever. You obviously need a feedback as soon as possible.
