There should be a Repository of Sanity somewhere on the net.
Fred Brooks' book contract with Addison-Wesley could be bought out, so Mythical Man Month is released for free.
MSFT would never "open-source" McConnell's Code Complete, but the DoJ could put it into the settlement terms.
Much better than the status quo, which basically is Dilbert.
(Yes, there is also the chutzpah-powered Joel on Software, but I am intentionally making everything look bleak. And all the texts in the world doth not a fool break.)

Heh, reads like a memo someone might have written for the Visual Studio.NET Installer (I worked on it as an SDET). Fortunately MS managed to catch some of the major mistakes (feature bloat mainly. On an installer... that's BAD.) and has remedied most of the problems.
