Buying hardware in Europe

Hi, I'm in Europe for a while and hardware prices here seem to be 100% above what I'd expect from pricewatcher.com.  Even using the price-comparison sites here.  How do Europeans deal with this?  I basically get friends to be my couriers when visiting, which isn't too friendly.

Thanks for any advice!

Ditto for music... if you are in the UK, and are looking for cheap CDs, check out http://www.cdwow.com.

CDs are at most £8.99 including shipping. You can preorder new releases as well, and the shipping is one or two days. (I am in London).

Gone are the days of paying £14.99 for a new CD at HMV et cie

Basically, you have to be patient and wait 6 month for the price to be reduced. ;-)

Ben: you are right, it is http://www.cdwow.co.uk or http://www.cd-wow.com

Robert: cdWOW has all the latest CDs for £8.99. The older ones are a bit cheaper.... no need to wait.

You don't mention which country you currently are in, but if you happen to be in the Germany/Austria/Swiss region a recommendation would be: http://www.geizhals.at/eu/ (Note: in German)

As an example a AthlonXP 2400+ is EUR 224 compared to the $199 from pricewatch. Sure it's a bit higher, but no 100%. If I were to import said CPU from the US it would end up a lot higher than EUR 224 thanks to shipping, sales tax and customes fees.

"The older ones are a bit cheaper.... no need to wait. "

Ummm,  if they're older doesn't this mean you waited?  Even if you didn't realise it...

I find www.komplett.ie and www.dabs.co.uk to be quite competitive.

Thanks for the responses, I live in Germany and think that technology makes things cheaper in the States, while Germany focusses on better laws to protect consumers.  It's not a tradeoff I like, but fortunately I'm not buying a new monitor every day.
