I think that this figure is after an even greater numbers of jobs are sourced in Asia. It's not a zero sum game. Yes, there are more unelmployed programmers in the US now. Asian programmers are not all working either. The point is, by using global resources, more software will be produced, not just shifted to lower cost places.

Tuesday, July 9, 2002 the over 30% (by 2010) category we have:
landscape architects (31%)
biomedical engineers (31%)
correctional officers (32%)
hazardous-materials-removal workers (33%).

don't ever want to work with a "biomass"
don't need a power trip
don't do hazardous materials even with "protection"
I think I'll go practice on my back yard.

So, 22 Million new jobs by 2010.

Approx. 3 million immigrants per year is 27 million, plus another million or so H1b types (195k/yr * 9) means there will be 28 million new workers competing for the 22 million new jobs. Not such great news after all.
