Customizing PropertyGrid

Hello,
I started working with the PropertyGrid control but very soon discovered I need to alter it's behaviour.
I started diving into all the UITypeEditor issue, but it puts me in quite a narrow bed.
For example I want for some properties to combos together.
Is the only way out is developing my own? Can someone recommend some direction?
