Visual studio tip

If you select a block of text and press tab, the block is indented.

I though most people knew this... :)

Nevertheless... The opposite also works: select the block, press Shift+Tab, and the block gets unindented

I knew somebody would say that ;)

Kidding aside, it is totally counter-intuitive. In almost every other Windows program doing that will just replace the text with a single tab.

Plenty of apps do indent when you hit TAB - in fact I get mighty annoyed if they don't.

Er, Visual Studio is a programmer's editor. Any such program I know does the select & indent thing.

By default, Macromedia Homesite does NOT indent/unindent with Tab/Shift+Tab. Fortunately you can tell it to do so by changing the settings.

Macromedia Homesite is a "programming editor" only if we consider HTML to be a "programming language"

Salaries of many skilled specialists in the IT industry have dropped significantly over the last few years. This is in part due to the widespread belief among "management types" and the "general public" <wide grin> that HTML is, in fact, a programming language, and putting <b> and </b> around selected phrases _is_ programming.

Using JavaScript is programming. For some reason it always seems like sordid sort of programming though...
