derived form class for c# compact framework

hi, i have created a custom form class derived from the standard windows form and am having difficulty getting it to work the way i want within the design environment, ie so i can drag and drop new objects onto it.  At present the form appears in design view but when i draw an object on the form the new object drops down onto the bar at the bottom.

Is there a  way of doing this so that i can see my objects positioned on the form in design view?

What type of object are you dropping on the form?

The objects that appear on the bar on the bottom are those that do not render UI on the form. In VB6 these types of objects (such as file open/save/print dialogs and timers) would show up on the form in the designer even though they would be invisible at run time.  With windows froms they are not rendered on the form, but on the bar instead. If you drop a control it should show up on the designer.
