ASP.NET question

is the .net runtime required by clients who access ASP.NET webpages?

Unless you use Windows Forms controls embedded in a page, which is basically the .Net equivalent of ActiveX controls embedded in a page.

No, the ASP.NET pages generally* put out pure HTML, like vanilla ASP, so you don't need anything special on the client-side (with exception noted above, re Forms).

* Actually, you can get your ASP.NET pages to output XML, images (.gif, etc), PDF, Excel, Word, etc documents too, if you want, but that's another story.
