application Config file vanishing

We are developing a console application and we do have <appname>.exe.config in our /bin folder and everything was working fine but lately we observed whenever you build your project, the building process takes out config file from the /bin directory and so when we run this application, it fails as there is no config file. We are using VS 2003(version 7.1.3088) and framework 1.1 Any idea?

That's a new trick in VS.NET 2003.  You must put the config file in the *project* directory, with a name of app.config, and VS will automatically copy it to the output directory, replacing "app" with the output executable's name.

Unfortunately, if there's no app.config in your project directory, the config file in the target directory is simply deleted...

Thanks Chris, it works now. I am wondering what are the other changes we should be concerned about!!

It is possible to add an app.config file to a Project by going to the Project Menu, selecting Add New Item, and then selecting Application Configuration File from the list in the right-hand pane. You'll have to scroll down to find it, as it is near the bottom.
