scoutSubmit && areas question

We are wondering how FogBugz determines what the "default" area is when creating a new project in a case.  We would like to modify scoutSubmit so that if we have a case "area" that the bug is supposed to be assigned to that does not exist, that it would figure out and use the "default" area for that project like FogBugz does with new projects instead of giving the user an error message (which means we loose bug reporting data).

Is this possible?  Where can we look for an example of how to do this?

Actually, there is no "default" area.  FogBugz just uses whatever appears first in the dropdown.  But it also remembers the last project and area you submitted a case for, so if you hit new case again, it may default to a different area.
