scoutSubmit question

When we had a failure situation in scoutSubmit, we got the return message "Area not valid: Scout <br />" when it is displayed in a MFC afxMessageBox.  We are confused by what the <br /> is for.

The actual code in scoutSubmit.asp is:

Sub Fail( sMsg )

    If Request("FriendlyResponse") = "1" Then
        Response.Write UnicodeClean(sMsg) & "<br />"

The br seems to be an HTML fomatting character Forced line break, but it doesn't appear to be correctly formatted even for that.  If someone could provide us with some additional information on this, we would appreciate it.

<br /> is the xhtml standard way of writing <br> (which is actually a not well formed tag).  Tags without closing tags, like br appear as <br />.

Anyway, feel free to modify scoutsubmit if you don't want it returning html...

Put another way: <br> is not compatible with XML, because it's seen as an an opening tag. It needs to close itself, thus <br />
