case version: why free text?

When editing a bug, why isn’t version (i.e. version that demonstrates the bug) a drop down (or multi select drop down if you’re keen)? It would seem a tighter way of recording bugs?

The theory is that software testing happens on many different versions -- daily builds, programmer's private builds, etc., and you need a completely flexible way to describe which version you saw the bug in. This is a legacy of FogBUGZ's roots in professional software development organizations with full time testers who download daily builds and test them all day, reporting multiple bugs throughout the day. The version field defaults to the last-entered value.
