CopyBoy 2.0 Beta 2

I just posted the installer for beta 2 of CopyBoy 2.0, the CityDesk Assistant.

You can grab it from (download link at the bottom of the page). You'll need to have MDAC 2.7 and the .NET Framework 1.1 installed.

Changes since beta 1:
- Fixed Ctrl+' in table editor for OLE object fields
- Added setup check for MDAC 2.7
- Fixed a bug that prevented search and replace from working in file body
- Fixed bug that caused a crash if you tried to open a CD 1.0 file
- Table edit pane now refreshes to show changes made on other panes
- Added Import Variables feature
- Zoom editing now works on files table
- Search & Replace implemented in template body
- Added registration code and test registration Web page

Why didn't Joel implement those features into CityDesk?

I'm sure many of CopyBoy's features will show up in CityDesk -- if not in 2.0, then in future versions. I have the advantage that I don't have to test or support CopyBoy features to work for every single CityDesk user, or to protect people from shooting themselves in the foot. This lets me implement new features much more quickly (and simply) than Fog Creek can.

CopyBoy is for those who have reached the boundaries of CityDesk, which I do not believe describes a majority of CityDesk users.

The other side is Joel's opinion, probably correct, that you need to make things very nice for developers. So, if there are hooks that allow 3rd parties to enhance CityDesk, that's a good thing.
