404 when publish and redirect conflict ?

Having a sequence of web pages (one redirects to the next every 20 seconds) we get a 404 error within the browser window which - we believe - coincides with publishing that particular html file due to be opened (using IE fades betweeen pages) ? Could that be ? Any ideas of a workaround ? Whats the file status the moment CD overwrites a particular file (publish doing filecopy) ?

Depends on your web server, I imagine.

With many servers it is possible to handle 404's. If it is handled in a neat way it should not be a problem.

For Apache you can specify this in a .htaccess file like
ErrorDocument 401 /missing.html
ErrorDocument 404 /missing.html
ErrorDocument 403 /missing.html

The challenge in combination with Citdesk is that the browser will think it is in  the location where it tries to access a document. If redirected to a /missing then pictures etc. may not be found unless you check this within javascript and perform a location="/missing.html" if necessary.

Well, I should have marked "filecopy" in bold. No web server involved, reading local files only.
