Folder Names

Hi, I want to include something like the following:

You are here: start : foldername1 : subfoldername1 : headline

so. the headline is no problem, but the foldernames (is like the path to the article) I can't get with CDScript, right?

Maybe I work something out by parsing the location string with javascript, but It world be nice, if CD provides us with such functions or variables.

Did anyone have a good idea how to work around that problem?

These are usualy called breadcrumbs.
There's an article in the knowledge base on how they can be created in CityScript.

There are about a zillion examples on the web of how to do it in javascript or php.  As you suggest this is usually done by parsing the url of the page.

I just uploaded a template, paper.cty to  It shows how to integrate Brand's JavaScript navigation bar and some other stuff as weel.  I don't see it listed there yet; until it is, you can get it at  Preview at

The template is based upon a capstone project for college that was delivered as a web site.  The web site used a lot of tips and tricks blatently stolen from this forum and various other sources.  I reduced it to outline form so that it is almost a template.

It includes the Poor man's Javascript navigation bar by Adriaan van den Brand (, elements of other CityDesk templates from FogCreek and John Conners'(, and Next and Previous article links lifted from Darren Collin's example.

Don't switch into normal mode when editing templates. CityDesk variables are used for color attributes which breaks in XHTML.
