Non-published import files

I have several files of html content that I want to use for {$ import $}, but I do not want those actual files to be published to the web server.  I don't want to code them into the template file itself, because they will be used by multiple template files.

Is there any way to prevent certain files from being published?  If I use the "Never Publish Before|After", the import fails to pull in the content.

Yes there is. Create a template "blank" that is completely empty (ie delete the {$. body $} in it. Then use that as the template for the file you don't want published. It will still be includable but the file itself won't be published.
