Testing a toaster.

Hi  Guys!

I was asked to test a toaster on the MS interview. Many of my colleagues were asked too. What do you think is 'complete' set of testing cases about the toaster?

Thanks a lot!

I was asked to test a pen.

I rambled on for about 15 minutes until the interviewer finally
stopped me.

No idea if there was a "right" answer, but I didn't end up
in QA, so who knows.

I don't think there was a 'right' answer. What the interviewer was looking for was probably twofold, in both cases. Firstly they are looking for you to talk knowledgeably about testing, so you would get marks for mentioning unit testing, black box testing, beta testing, comparison with specification and all that. Second they were probably looking for you to show some creativity in applying this stuff in unusual circumstances (how the heck do you unit test a toaster anyway?).

My guess is you should have further probed .. do i test for it to write, or for dropping from a building floor etc.

They may be looking whetehr you 'complete' the specs or not
before jumping in.
