Being an ISV making video games for handheld sounds like my dream job.

I wonder if it's still possible today for an indie developer to make a fortune out  of kick ass games ?
Anyone in this line of business here ?

Sure.  If you have an absolutely killer game built, you can make a ton.  Unfortunately, you have to have an absolutely killer game built to do it.

See:
www.Dexterity.com

Indie game developer (albiet for the PC). with LOTS of articles on "how to be an indie developer".

I'm sure it's pretty applicable to PDA games as well.
Actually, you might have a better time there because it's a narrower niche thant he PC, so less competition.

If you are going to try to get into this, I would posit that you should focus on your target market and catering to it. Whatever game you make, be sure it appeals to the broadest possible spectrum of mobile users.

Or, maybe just the richest...

I toyed with that idea for a little bit awhile back. Check out OpenWave. The way things move it may be obsolete or canned by now, or it may be a big hit... I don't know.

I thought it had some of the best documentation and such of the mobile SDK's I found.
