RSS with Ads.

looks like the good old days of ad free RSS are gone. Had to unsubscribe from 2 newsfeeds provided by newsisfree.

Anyone else seeing ads ?

No, I don't see ads anywhere on the internet.

Point the advertisers URL to your home machine using the hosts file.

Like this:

127.0.0.1      ads.msn.com

It makes getting the content faster (no wasting time loading images of smiling happy people off the network).

And it looks better.

What annoys me about newsisfree feeds is ads are separate items. I wouldn't mind if there are text ads embedded in the news items itself.

hoser:

i already do that. I meant ads with RSS< ads you see in your newsreader.

Well, they gotta be coming from somewhere.  Try running something like netstat and see what sockets are open.  Or ethereal.  Maybe you can shutdown the advert socket?  If the ads are inline with the RSS feed (same socket) then there is nothing you can do.

Darn those content providers and their attempts to make money!

As I recall, several conspicuous bloggers have already tried to embed Google ads in their feeds, but Google cited their terms and the ads were removed.  But does this move really surprise anyone, and should it be a cause for concern?
