Picasa is now available for free download

http://www.picasa.com/google/

In contrast to Microsoft and Lookout, Google have already made their recent aquisition, Picasa, available for free download.

I downloaded this the other day, and installed it today. It scoured my PC for pictures, and even though that's about as far as I've gotten with it, I already love it!

Picasa is not bad but Adobe PhotoAlbum free starter editon (PSA) is much better : http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopalbum/starter.html

From what I have seen Picasa can only show pictures based on dates while PSA allows you to mark pictures with multiple tags picture and slice and dice the views based on tags.  Ironically that is exactly the technique used by google in gmail where you can tag each mail!

PSA also has a much better export functionality -- although strangely it is called Attach to Email!

I have a 1000 photos in PSA and it chugs along quite nicely....in summary Picasa...good start but still long way to go.
