Do you know anything about collecting data from serial ports?

Do you know anything about Allen Bradley PLC's?

What kind of computer is going to collect the data?

AB has a number of packages available that provide i/o to their PLCs. Talk to your local distributor, they're usually very helpful and knowledgeable. Be prepared to send some money though, you're dealing with high-end hardware and they are priced accordingly.

I did a project similar to this 10 years ago. AB's manuals were quite extensive, and documented the protocols quite well. As JWA said, talk to the AB people, they sholed be able to get you the documentation.

Allen Bradley?  Wasn't he Dick van Dykes's boss on the old Dick van Dyke Show?

I'll throw in the obligatory "hire me, I've done it before and it ain't easy"

Oh well, I'm busy now anyway.

One acronym for you: OPC
