A great day to be at work...

...for Canadian cubicle jockeys, eh!

I don't think I've gotten this much done in 3 hours for as long as I can remember. Amazing what a little quiet can do for ya. Don't get me wrong, I actually prefer a cubicle to a separate office, but occasionally the peace is preferable.

For the uninformed, yesterday was a national holiday (Canada day) here. Most people are taking today off to get the loooong weekend.

Maybe it's just in Ottawa, but even rush hour traffic was non-existant.

And, in an attempt to seed this as the longest, most contentious thread ever on JoS, I'm having a pretty good day too.

So there!

Great day here too.  Microsoft just settled it's lawsuit with my state.  Our company can participate in the class action and get some $$$  Sweeeeeeet.

(And to help Philo out, if by helping out you define contentious as flamewar)

Woah! You mean there is such a thing as *informed* Candians?

Only as informed as the "Uhmerikans" who refer to us as "Candians"

Of course, some of us are still unsure as to whether to call you Canadans or call your country Canadia...

What's that over there!?

It is indeed a great day!

I'm going on a 2-week vacation, and off to spend 1 week in Vienna.

Yay!

Oh, yeah, some contentious... lemme see...

How about this - MS should OS their SW, to keep from going bankrupt!!!

Paulo - don't you mean Sun instead of Microsoft.

Although I guess, really, what's the difference anyway. :)

"don't you mean Sun instead of Microsoft."

That isn't contentious. Everybody's saying it, so IT MUST BE TRUE (TM)

(Apologies to anyone who never saw this Garfield episode)

Traffic in Ottowa? You mean you didn't have to wait at either stoplight?

Don't be too hard on the Canadians...They're still upset that they can't be our 51'st State.

Huh?

Canada?

Excuse me! It's spelled Kannada, and they are Kannadigas.

I love Ottawa. Like Washington DC, it has this huge parks and empty spaces in the middle of the city left for the posterity to fill up with monuments, war memorials and the likes. If you start up a new country don't forget to leave some room for those.

I was actually having a fantastic entire month. The code compiles, it runs, we're hitting targets. I've been on holiday, we finally found engagement rings and the annoying rattle in the car turned out not to be the car falling apart but just a badly stowed pack of sweets in a cubby-hole. The various bosses I have are normal, sane people without any major dumbness. They let us tech people get on with the tech stuff and stay out of the way...

And then the office burned down.

No, really. It really did.

That was us, that was. Some days, you've just got to shrug and give up...

Miles, here we spell it 'stoplite', but it still uses the green, yellow, and red coloUrs.

'Huh', we'd be happy to become #51, but you have to promise to take Quebec too.

I was in Ottowa a couple of months ago and I was struck by how small a town it was, for being the capitol.

"'Huh', we'd be happy to become #51, but you have to promise to take Quebec too"

Hmmm..that could be a deal killer. The last thing we want is a bunch of whiney French wannabes running amok.

Huh?

I guess OttAwa isn't that big, but...

Ottawa pop: ~1 million
Canada pop: ~30 million

Washington pop: ~6 million
U.S. pop: ~300 million?

Seems about right.

Anyways, my quiet day is now done. Off to the cottage...

So how many JOS'ers currently live in Ottawa?

Right now I'm on a contract in Dallas, but Ottawa is home base.

While I was at work (assumming TechEd is work?) I too had a great day, getting loads of good info from Alex Kipman about MsBuild. Went down hill once I got to the airport (but then thats not work, thats travelling from work) when my flight was delayed by nearly an hour :(
