Download manager

Another software advice question. Can anyone recommend a download manager? Not looking to speed up connections, just have the ability to stop and start.

I tried Internet Download Manager, but it causes VS.NET to crash.

GetRight is fine, if you can live with the ads :)

Star Downloader also works OK.

I use Download Accelerator from speedbit.com
The free version has advertising but if you pay for it they are removed.

In actual fact...

I saw a complaint somewhere, someone paid for Download Accelerator and the adware was *still* there.

Just propagating hearsay, do your own searching.

I have been using FlashGet for a while now. I think it has ads, but I never see them since I keep it hidden. Supports a floating transparent icon which lets you know status of downloads.

If you install the ad-supported version of DAP first, then enter the serial no. to remove the ads, the ad-related files are still on your HD and will be picked up in a scan by AdAware.  Even though they're not being displayed any more.
