Joel's recent writings - reading between the lines

*Wants*
_______

A richer and more capable GUI widget set for browsers.

Ability to send and recieve large amounts of textual data, natively, using _only_ the browser.

A mention of the red squiggly under misspelled words.

Compilation of business rules that are scripted.

...among similar things that make a browser feel and work like a desktop app.

*Rants*
_______

The traditional Windows API seems to becoming EOLed.

.NET has runtime issues, both in terms of backward compatiblity and distribution.

Competent programmers are moving away from Desktop development onto the Web.

...among other issues that point towards a feeling of loss/frustration/confusion/anger over the necessity to implement a tangential shifting of skill sets; skill sets that have been acquired painstakingly over many man-years.

And - a mention of Sharepoint. IIRC, Joel has rarely, if at all,  mentioned that particular product of MS, in his public writings.

So is Joel working on some uber grand nifty Wiki-esque product? Something that has a graphical editor as the USP over the more traditional text based approach?

Just picking a nit, but if there's only one person complaining, then wouldn't he have painstakingly acquired said skills over many [calendar] years?  unless there's two people, how is the man-years count any different from real years?
