Dont want to dual boot, just want xp alone

Hi peoples,
I'm in the midst of "upgrading" my laptop os, from windows 2000 to xp home edition.
Upgrades cannot be done between the two because of the incompatibility. Thus a new installation has to be done, which is perfectly fine.
I'm now at the blue setup screen that says..

You chose to install Windows XP on a partition that
contains another operating system. Installing Windows XP
on this partition might cause the other operating system
to function improperly.

Note: Installing multiple operating systems on a single partition is not recommended.

* To continue Setup using this partition, press C
* To select a different partition, press ESC

How can i avoid having 2 os's?. I really want to get rid of win2k completely. I assumed that xp would override the old os. Please help. thanks.

Yu need to format the C partition first, so that you are installing to a clean C partition.

I thought that you were offered that choice from set up. If you have FAT 32 its easy enough to just boot into a DOS floppy and type format C:

With NTFS it is a little more difficult since it can't be accessed from DOS. If you can't get into the C drive from your Emergency Boot Disks and either reformat or simply delete everything, then you should download a program called DELPART from Microsoft and use that to delete the partition.

Find a Win95, Win95, MSDOS boot floppy ( or produce one on any machines running such an OS).
Boot.
Run FDISK and remove any extended and primary partitions. delete, delete, delete ...
This will (quicly) o.w. the Master Boot Record and you'll and
having a pristine ( or almost:-) HD.

Now boot your XP from the media and ... enjoy the setup !

Its a lot easier then using a msdos floppy.

Just delete the partition while you in the blue setup screen. Then it returns to the question were do you want to install Windows. And now choose the new and empty partition that shows up.

I know you already managed it but have a look at this site for the next install: http://www.blackviper.com/Articles/OS/InstallXPPro/installxppro1.htm
