JOS Selected Essays

Now I read JOS a lot.  But I can not remember anyone ever mentioning this.  I do remember that someone suggested at one point that Joel should put his essay's into a book, and I've often though about it, but here it is!

Has it not become like wallpaper... we know it's there but does anyone really pay it any mind?

"This log has become infamous among the programming world"

Can somoene please clear my confusion? (I'm not a native english speaker). Isn't "infamous" a bad thing? I've seen the word many times used in places in which it must be intended as something positive...

Yes it's bad.

http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=infamous&x=11&y=18 says "disgraceful, having a reputation of the worst kind".

I guess the reviewer thought it meant "controversial" or something.

I read the review but didn't notice that; I was parsing the review as "advertising: skip to next...".
