bookkeeping for mobile macintosh professional?

hi, I recently ended my glamorous career as an IT systems programmer and have switched over to becoming a filmer/producer of video clips.

My production kit is based on an apple powerbook. I'm trying to keep the number of non-media-production apps at a minimum.

One issue I'm running into is that I don't know what a decent accounting package is for the mac. I'm considering purchasing a windows laptop for running quickbooks, but I have to travel a lot and would rather not carry 2 laptops. Most of my mac-head friends say the version of quickbooks for the macintosh is not worth using.

does anyone have any other suggestions for macintosh accounting software?

also, another idea I had was to see if there is a palm-pilot based accounting package. I do like the idea of dedicating my powerbook to final cut pro and logic, and having my accounting package run somewhere else, but would rather not carry about 2 laptops. carrying a palm pilot wouldn't be so bad, though.

This is a good package.  My father uses MYOB on Windows, he started with it on the Mac though.  The Mac stuff is now called Account Edge or First Edge for on without payroll and inventory.

When your Mac buddies panned the version of QuickBooks for Mac, were they talking about the newest version? I ran my consulting business (a long time ago) on QuickBooks for Mac verson 4 (I think) and it was pretty lousy. However, Quicken has released a recent update which brings QuickBooks up to Mac OS X and alleged parity with the Windows version.

I haven't used QuickBooks in about 5 or 6 years now, so I can't comment on it. However, I do know that my accountant at the time only accepted electronic records exported from QuickBooks.

I have heard good things about AccountEdge; but I haven't had a reason to use it yet.
