Best way to clip mpg files?

Can anyone recommend an app to edit mpg or avi files? I like to leave a cap program running on MTV2 and clip out the videos individually later, so I just need a way to open a file, mark a start and end (preferably with macro and micro finesse), then do a "save as" on the selected clip.

TMpegEnc is close, but still kludgy.

Thanks!

Virtual Dub should do this. I've used it to extract segments from VOB (DVD) files. It will probably work for MPG too.

Easy Video Splitter and Easy Video Joiner are shareware, but do the job very easily and well, without recompressing.

I hate VirtualDub, mainly because I don't have time to learn it - I just want the job done quickly and fast.

There is also a software from ULead, which is a royal PITA, and works by recompressing.

With VirualDub, I'm not sure if you can cut or clip the files without recompression.

Recompression is bad - loses quality!
