So is this an attempt by the monolithic Microsoft to control even the *nix desktop, or a push back from the failing stagnating linux crowd to jump on the innovation bandwagon.

I guess we know what Miguel de Icaza is doing these days.  Now if Don Box steals him away like he's trying to do, that would make things interesting.

Kentasy, what *is* mono?

No, I'm not talking about the .NET for Linux clone, but what television and movies lead me to infer is some sort of social disease.

Didn't occur in conversation or classroom, growing up in Australia in the 60s and 70s.

"I Hate Whiners", thanks for the link. Now I'm curious about why we don't have references to this disease in Australia ... I've got kids aged 12 and 14, and have never heard it discussed.

Hmmmm. Perhaps we refer to it as something else. Time to hit Google.

For Aussies, I think mononucleosis = glandular fever.

glandular fever would be a bit of a misnomer but possible.  I find it strange that Australians wouldn't have heard of mononucleosis.  It's very common.  In the US anyway basically everyone has had it (many asymptomatically) by young adulthood.  I can't see why Australians wouldn't have it.

We don't have it in England either. I mean to say, I suppose we DO have, but call it something different.
From what little I know of "Mono" (knowledge based entirely on 70s and 80s sitcoms!) our "Glandular Fever" is MUCH worse.
Has there ever been a more off-topic thread that hasn't been deleted? ;-)
