I hope the URL isn't cut in the middle.

Now I know why it's called a blob :)

Curious, anyone know of other "acronyms" that everyone uses that originally were not acronyms at all?

Does "tips" really come from To Insure Prompt Service?

gotta get back to my TTP project now... :-)

Wouldn't that be "to ensure prompt service" .

Leave your teps at the door. Thanks.

I'm Mr. Pedantic Word Guy, too, and I've had to give up on ensure/insure. The dictionary has changed to reflect the generally lowered intelligence of the general public, unfortunately. :-p

I still smack people for saying "ATM Machine", though...

Kernit, the old file transfer program, is supposedly an acronym for "KL-10 Error-free Reciprocal Microcomputer InterChange  over  TTY-Lines".  This definitely has the ring of a back-formation.

I remember hearing somewhere that when pressed, the original implementors admitted that the protocol was simply named after the frog.

Hey Brad, how can I get my server's NIC Card's MAC address from an ASP page?

;P

Here is the story of The "Real" Blob

Interesting that the OP's story is on a site called ibPhoenix.com and the movie was filmed in Phoenixville, PA (my hometown :))

Re: Kermit

When did *that* abomination come out? The copies of the Kermit manual I looked at (lo these many years ago) flat out stated:

Q: What does Kermit stand for?
A: Nothing. It's the name of a frog.

Somebody in university marketing had waaay too much time on their hands.

FAT Table, Tiff file or TIff format (Tagged image file format), TCP/IP Protocol

These are endless.

So no motherboard can have an integrated NIC, right?

This thread reminds me of one of my favorite phrases:
"So being so fucking pedantic"

Actually, "Tiff file" is correct use.

If Tiff File is correct, what do the f's stand for?

Tagged Image File Format File?

I always thought it should have been TIF with the F either being File or Format depending on what you followed it with.

I don't understand your post, Philo.
