I would defined 'need' is check something such as important emails .from social contacts/friends., especially if some urgent action has to be taken on it.

Information such as News are obtained from the other sources
like radio and TV  and I won't call that a need.

I work at home. Hard to delineate. Most every hour contains some personal time and some work time. I do tear myself away from it a little better than my wife does. I can usually feel my brain going into rebellion. :)

Porn.. Well, about 5-10 minutes download, then 2 minutes "hibernating".

For years I refused to have a computer at home.  Now I can't live without it.

Studying: 2.5 hours a day on weekdays, 8 on Saturdays.

Checking e-mail etc., up to 1 hour a day.

Letter-writing sessions can take between 1 and 4 hours a time, but don't happen with any regularity. Say 1-2 letter-writings a month?

If job-hunting, add another 3-5 hours a day, 3-5 times a week.

I have my computers at home for doing pet-projects and tests I can not perform at work due to security restrictions or whatever...

1 Dual 1GHz Pentium box
        - Windows Development (Delphi)
        - MSDE
        - Oracle 8.1.7
        - IBM Universal DB2
        - Apache
        - Flight Sim 2004 :-)

1 Sun Ultra 5
        - Oracle 8.1.7
        - iAS (Oracles Application Server)
        - Apache
        - PostgreSQL
        - gcc

1 Windows Laptop (Work)
        - Work connection kit

Ah, yes...how many hours a day; it depends, if Im motivated and "in the zone" it can add up to 7-8 hours a day. Other days, its nothing.

Some days Flight Sim takes a bunch of hours too, but thats another story :-)
