One more piece of advice before I leave this board:

The most important this is that you love what you're doing.  If you do everything else will take care of itself.

Ideas will flow 24 hours a day.

To be the best you must work very hard, and know your stuff.  People will always figure out who the frauds are given enough time.

Ask yourself what it is you love about what you're doing.  What's most important to you?  What do you really want to be good at?  I don't think there's a universal right answer to this one, just a right answer for each person.

And the answer that's right for you may not be right for the company you're in.  You might want to think about that (no matter what you eventually decide to do about it).

How to become the best: Learn from people better than you.  Learn from books, articles, etc.  Learn from trial and error.  Don't stop learning thinking you are the best, or you won't stay that way for long.

Not any revelations there, I guess.

It sounds like you should read "The Effective Executive" by Drucker.

The minute you stop learning you might as well be dead.  Either shoot yourself and get it over with or realize it is time to find another direction in life.

I also agree 1000% about loving what you do.  When "it" doesn't seem like work, "it" isn't.  Hopefully "it" ends up being somewhere between High Art and Porno.

So, the question becomes:  Do you want to know how to make yourself the best in a job that you don't absolutely adore?
