FTP Client Recommendations?

Howdy all,

I've just about become totally fed up with WS FTP's lack of file synchronization and inclination to crash whenever you ask it to transfer more than ten or twenty files at once.

Thus I began to investigate the alternatives... and my brief review of the competition shows that there are roughly 15 squintillion FTP clients in existence.

So... has anyone had any particularly good (or bad) experiences with FTP clients. Cheap is good but I don't mind paying money. File synchronisation is an absolute must, beyond that, I'm open to suggestions :-)

TIA!
Christo

Smart FTP is pretty good and free.

Filezilla (search for it on sourceforge) is a good one. A server version is also available.

I use LeechFTP ( http://stud.fh-heilbronn.de/~jdebis/leechftp/downloads.html ), and it works for me. It's free as well.

Another vote for LeechFTP. I'm using it for the last years and although it's not developed and supported any more - I won't leave it, I think.

Third vote for Leech FTP.

Very stable and easy to use.

I love Total Commander (used to be Windows Commander). Aside from being a replacement to Windows Explorer, its FTP capabilities are real nice. It's also got a synchronize directories option to compare files.

The GUI is ... well, if you like Slashdot you'll be OK with this program.

I like FileZilla, it's a nice free open source one.

SmartFTP is freeware and very good.

NetLoad is shareware, but can automatically sync several web sites.

FAR!

It resembles Norton Commander (same blue colors) but full win32-console app.
Best app for file management (it has FTP inside also).

I changed from WS_FTP as well, for similar reasons. I now use FTP Voyager, and it  works fine. http://www.ftpvoyager.com/

Are you using a fairly recent version of WS-FTP? I have had no problems like those you describe. Check out WS-FTP Pro version 8:

Wow! Thanks everyone for their suggestions. I've got some trialling to do :-)

As to WS FTP, I thought about that and downloaded the most recent version I could find off their website 6 months or so ago... but it's 5.something, so I'm not sure if they've gone through 3 versions in 6 months, or if I glitched - either way, if it's stable, the feature set does look good, so I'll grab a trial.

Cheers,
Christo
