Can You See This???

Dear all:

I've gotten reports from a number of people that say they can't connect to my wife's (Portuguese-language) site: http://ingrid.poochkiss.com/

I especially need to know if anyone from ** BRAZIL ** can or cannot connect. (I've run traceroute from a number of different Brazilian places and all seem to hit it fine.)

** Furthermore, does anyone have any recommendations for testing a website's uptime beyond traceroute and humble requests at forums? **

Thanks for your help,
Yoav

OK in NYC.

Aren't there programs that will run & ping your site occasionally to make sure it's still up. They'll pop up a message or send an e-mail if something goes awry? I dunno how you could test from a geographic location other than your own though... some sort of proxy, I guess.

MT is in perl IIRC

Neat way of advertising your site.

Anyway you will be pleased to know that the Saudis have not censored it!

-- So if you can fill it with Brazilian porn before they find out I'll be really grateful :)

Well, well.... I must say that I am truly impressed. JOS Forum users from all over the world helping me out. Sorry if this sounds corny but after years of working the Web I'm still blown away by the fact that individuals from....

Australia
Brazil
Bulgaria
Canada
Denmark
Hungary
Indonesia
Israel
Italy
Mars
Netherlands
New Zealand
Poland
Portugal
Saudi Arabia
Spain
Sweden
UK
United Arab Emirates
USA

(And even Antartica, Inside the Matrix, Outer space and Quadrant 1304.536)

.... can come together. Thus, it would seem that viewing my wife's website is OK. (Ronaldo from Brazil -- my wife's hometown is also Belo Horizonte.)

Notes:

1. In one sense, yes, you could look at my request for help as a way to advertise but since the site is in Portuguese for most of you here it's not relevant. However, my request was sincere.

2. The content mangagement system I used for my wife's site is custom-made (I'm a web developer). By the way, I think the true power of weblog tools is not that we're creating legions of "journalists" as Dave Weiner ( http://scripting.com ) would like to believe. It allows anyone to easily publish their thoughts on the Web. Even easier than acquiring a copy of FrontPage. But that's a topic for another time.

3. I am an American married to a (beautiful) Brazilian living in Israel.

Once again, thank you all very much. I'm humbled.

Here's an online multi-traceroute tool... you pick the source locations/countries and let it try to get to the destination site/IP.

You can try http://www.cycletraders.com/ .  It monitors your website from many different locations.  I used it for a while about a year ago or so (maybe a little less), but I found the results to be difficult to interpret.  Maybe they've improved the system since I used it, though.
