Software Compatibility under Pocket PC

Let's say someone write a game for
a Compaq Pocket PC and the game works fine on it.

Do you need to own all the PDA systems based on the same OS or is there a some tools/emulators which tell you that it will run on X, Y,Z platform without owning the X,YZ hardware

I have heard some game might work fine and a Compaq and not a Casio.

So my question is how do you ensure compatibility when you do not own the hardware

You can't.  Unless its been tested on that hardware.  Sad fact of life.  But that's what beta testers are for.

All of the PocketPC 2002 systems run processors from the same family now and are binary compatible, so you should be OK when developing for PPC 2002.

PocketPC 2000 had three or four different supported processors.  Casio, HP Jornada, and Compaq Ipaq were all different.
