Sad.  I am beginning to research his work.  You know, buying those Chris Date books and all.

Dunno what else to say.

Sad day

Sad day when pascal & date become the main spokesppl for the relational model...

You meant that in jest, but I'm not sure what that means.  These two are too arrogant, or incompetent?  I heard Codd was something of a hellraiser.

Karel --

I agree, at least about Fabian Pascal.  Even if you're sympathetic to his position (all current databases are crap, none are relational, relational db's are god), he's sure to alienate you with his surly demeanor.

From what I've read, Date is nowhere near as bad.

Here's a link to Pascal's Database Debunking site:

http://www.pgro.uk7.net/content.htm

It's basically full of articles explaining that the only proper type of database is a relational database (okay), that no current database is fully relational (okay), that all current databases are crap (hmmm), and that anybody who thinks a current database is okay is an idiot (he's going wacko here).

I'm not kidding, read some of his stuff.  A large percentage of it is made up of rants against the database industry and insults to the intelligence of anyone other than himself and Date, even people who try to express agreement with them.  I feel sorry for him.  As George Bailey said of Henry Potter, he strikes me as "a warped, frustrated old man".
