Not to an Italian it doesn't.

Now we know why there are no Romanian opera stars; they've all got duff hearing.

What Romanian does sound incredily similar to is Catalan.

No Romanian opera stars! I think you must know a lot about classical music. Ever heard of Angela Gheorghiu? She is probably the world's greatest soprano. Try listening to this :

Ileana Cotrubas was a fine example in the previous generation, too.

And since Gheorghiu is married to Roberto Alagna, it must be possible for Romanians and Italians to understand one another.

You can fly all over Romania from Treviso airport too!
