Inno Setup for SQL Server/MSDE-based Apps?

Is anyone out there using Inno Setup to install client/server apps that require the configuration of databases on SQL Server/MSDE and installation of MSDE for laptops intended for "disconnected" use?

Joel went to a "from scratch" solution for FogBugz because of complexities with database and IIS configuration, but I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet!

I've tried Windows Installer, but unfortunately, you can't launch the MSDE setup from within Windows Installer, and the merge modules have a bunch of bugs, so I'm looking at non-Windows Installer solutions.  This will allow me to simply launch the MSDE Setup.exe to handle the install.

Any feedback from someone who's performed this process using Inno Setup, or who's accomplished this with another tool, would be much appreciated.

According to MSDN, the Package and Deployment Wizard installs MSDE, although I don't know if this helps in your situation.

FYI not mine

You are much more likely to get a good answer by asking this question in the inno setup newsgroups:
http://www.jrsoftware.org/newsgroups.php

There's also a search box at the bottom of that page you might want to try first.

If you want to search and modify registry settings I recommend Innosetup Extensions. It comes with a full scripting support, allowing you to do all kind of weird stuff.

Thanks, Jan.  I'll bring my question over there.

I've been using Wise for installing IIS, MSDE, and many many other complex installations for a few years now. I've never had a problem and I've never spent more than two days designing the installation.

I just happen to come along this very clean web site full of interesting InnoSetup links. And most importantly a knowledge base with several How To's:

Marc: Do you use the Wise for Windows Installer product, or the non-Windows Installer product? Do you launch the MSDE Setup.exe from within the installer?

I use the non-windows installer. Windows installer is a nightmare that I've not tried to use five times. Each time it gets harder. :)

I'm launching MSDE from the command line. But I know other people are doing more than that. You might be able to find some info on it at http://www.dragonsoft.spb.ru/ (they have a ton of Wise scripts for everything)
