Why the CueCat failed...

MSNBC has a story about it at: http://www.msnbc.com/news/683994.asp

This guy:

http://www.msnbc.com/news/683994.asp?cp1=1 stole Joel's exact words from:

http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/fog0000000054.html

and

http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/fog0000000037.html

See such phrases as: It’s the classic chicken-and-egg dilemma
and
“boil-the-ocean” ideas.

Joel used both the chicken-and-egg and boil-the-ocean metaphor talking about the exact same product over a year earlier! Coincidence?

Joel, you get him, pal (and get yourself some good press in the process!)

Grrrr!

How about because it was an insanely stupid idea??

A. Nony Mouse,

I disagree.

Joel did not create the terms 'chicken-and-egg' and 'boil-the-ocean'.  These are common phrases.

I read the msnbc article about the CueCat and then read the 'joel' article about the CueCat.
Of course the 'joel' article was exponentially better, but the only real similarities was the use of the phrase 'chicken-and-egg'.

I wouldn't get worked up about it.
And I think it would be a big waste of Joel's time to 'consider' pursuing what you suggest (let alone actually following through on it).

Just my humble opinion.
I could be wrong, it won't be the first time.

And that, my friend is why you are a developer and not a lawyer!
