Scrum

I'm interested to hear opinions and experiences with the Scrum methology/process wrapper.

It seems like a well defined system for "managing by list" and keeping the dependancy chart woes at bay.  It seems a natural progression from the spreadsheet system offered here.

A good overview can be found at http://www.mountaingoatsoftware.com/scrum

I know some people who used it, they said it was the not a particularly good methology/process.

It was less useful than a spreadsheet, and sometimes confused simple issues.

One thing that has been adopted by other methodologies is the short status meetings every day. We practiced XP (pairing, unit testing, continuos integration, etc) but noth XP and SCRUM find these useful: http://www.extremeprogramming.org/rules/standupmeeting.html

I think they are very useful for both programmers and managers allowing everyone to see where the project stands and making the whole group accountable. The most important thing was that we kept them short, 20-20 mins for a 10 person team.
