Projects in C++ and/or Java

My friend has just started learning C++ & Java, and wanted to do a couple of projects in either or both of them to really get Object Oriented Programming.

Do you guys know any good websites that have projects for C++ or Java, which would imporve a person's understanding of Object Oriented Programming.

Thanks,

www.sf.net has plenty of projects to look at.

Since he is just starting out, maybe sourceforge would be overkill for him? I mean, he would have to understand the existing code, collaborate with others etc etc

Is there any other _good_ public repository of ideas that have real world applications and yet are small enough for a beginner?

Try here: http://www.cetus-links.org/

They have heaps of links to sites containing information on OOP, and they categorise them by language.

Geoff: That site looks interesting.

BTW how reliable are they? Anybody else have any comments or recommend them?

There is always www.topcoder.com, they have practice problems that you can try in Java, C++, or C#.
