How hard is it to selfpublish soft on the nett

How hard is it to self-publish software on the internet.

I am thinking mainly for games for the Machintosh
because the PC game market is OVERLOADED.

Is there many people out there who make a living
by selling their software on the internet ?

Cheers,
Tom

I'm quite successful selling my own software -- see http://www.ultrafractal.com/ .

Check AmbrosiaSW.com.  The Mac gaming scene is definitely unique in that it has allowed this shareware company to thrive and garner some pretty impressive press.  The same games on Windows would be lucky to have the same audience "absolutely" speaking (vs. relatively speaking).

Inside Mac Games Magazine oftens runs a story of the best shareware games out for the Mac.  You might want to check insidemacgames.com as well.

Another sort of "garage game publishing house" would be Pangea Software - http://www.pangeasoft.net/ - though their latest game is being released through Aspyr iirc.  Both Ambrosia and Pangea started very small.

So in brief, you're right.  Mac sharware games is a niche market that apparently has room to support a number of big players.  Best of luck.
